FISHER'S PRESS RELEASE - OCTOBER 2006
(This new webpage has been added for the new Winter timetables which come into effect on 6th November.
Up to 3rd November the current arrangements are still in force, details HERE, and re-start on 19th March 2007.)

EDITORIAL FEATURE - SCOTTISH EXPRESS SERVICE

Introducing New Routes

We are nearing the end of our summer programme of the Scottish Express Service, which has been very successful, many of the departures requiring extra coaches each day.  Due to the popularity it proved necessary to make a reservation in advance to guarantee a seat, for only 50 pence it was certainly worth-while.  Travellers used the service for different needs, visiting friends or relatives, sightseeing, making that ever promised visit to the place they had never been, or just simply for a day out and for seniors with a National Entitlement Card there is no limit to the opportunities available.  Our summer services which included Largs, Oban, Fort William, Kirkcaldy, Aberdeen, Jedburgh, Ayr, Inverness & Pitlochry will end 4th November 2006 and will re-start 19th March 2007.

To follow the succession of the summer we are pleased to introduce our new Routes.  Bearing in mind that it is becoming colder and that we may not all wish to walk around out in the fresh winter breeze, we have included services which can also be used as a shopping days’ out, where you will have the choice to be indoors or outdoors.  Although do remember that the idea of Scottish Express is that you can use the service to suit you, whether you want to take a short trip or travel the full length of the route, travel one day and return another – the choice is yours.  The New Service will start on Monday 6th November 2006

In addition to our new Services we have also added new departure points from your local area.  We will be operating the following departure points on a fortnightly rota, i.e.

Week 1  -  BRECHIN, FINAVON, FORFAR, INVERALDIE, DUNDEE …..

Week 2  -  ARBROATH, CARNOUSTIE, MONIFIETH, BROUGHTY FERRY, DUNDEE…..

Our newly appointed Scottish Express Operations Manager will be visiting your area with our Mobile Booking Office as from 16th October 2006,  David will be there with a warm welcome to help you with any enquiries, take your reservation for the Scottish Express Service or any of our extended and day tours as well as private coach hire.  Also available will be Express timetables, Fishers Tours Holidays Summary & Day Tour Leaflets.  See our Mobile Booking Office sections for the days where our office will be located.

(Tourist Information Offices will no longer be available for any bookings, although Scottish Express timetables, day tour & holiday summary’s will be still be available for collection).

Read on for notes for travellers from the Monikie Area using Strathtay Services 78/79

The following timetable is an extract for the Monikie bus service, Strathtay 78/79, likely to connect with the above time tables. Connection times with Scottish Express services may be quite critical - read on . . .

The Webmaster has discussed this with Mr. Kidd of Fishers Tours and travellers are advised to follow this advice. A 50 pence booking reservation should be made well in advance of the particular date you intend travelling. The coach driver is then aware to expect a particular number of passengers to be boarding at particular stops.  Persons who will be using the Strathtay 78/79 service from the Monikie area should note that the service shown in the FIRST column of the table below is timed to arrive at the bus stop outside the Post Office Bar at 08.17 but often runs late (Strathtay buses say not usually more than 5 minutes). Scottish Express services are timed to leave the lay-by OPPOSITE Broughty Ferry Library.

Travellers are advised to make Fishers Tours aware when placing a reservation that they will be arriving in Broughty Ferry on the 78/79 service from the Monikie area. Fishers Tours driver will be made aware of this and, if there is a 'shortage' of travellers waiting at the lay-by stop he will be asked to look particularly for the arrival of the Strathtay bus down Fort Street (brae) turning right at the traffic lights to stop at the PO Bar, and/or making their way from that bus stop to the lay-by. He cannot otherwise await the late arrival of passengers using the Strathtay service. Being 'scheduled services' he must leave at his published times.  The reservation fee will be lost if travellers do not turn up.

Please CLICK HERE to add YOUR comments, suggestions, and advice which may help travellers on the various services -
  1. Persons making connections by public transport from outlying areas to the pick-up points may have time to spare before and after their Scottish Express journeys. For example, one Monikie bus arrives at Whitehall Street, Dundee about 08.37.
  2.

Please share your tips and comments with other travellers, as a result of your experiences. Write to me.

PERTH - There is an hourly-ish service number 4 back from the road end at Caithness Glass works (north of Perth) to Perth Mill Street, if anyone wanted to break (sic!) the day.

GLASGOW Airport - change for Arriva's hourly service 300 to Clydebank, as well as frequent services to Paisley centre.

ABERDEEN - After a bit in Aberdeen, take a Stagecoach Bluebird 201 to Crathes Castle or Banchory, up to twice an hour. M W Nicoll service 105 departs Banchory Corsee Road at 14.05, Banchory High Street/Mount Street at 14.06, Crathes Castle main entrance 14.17, back to Stonehaven Barclay Street at 14.44, not too far to walk from the "chipper" for the bus back home again  at 15.23.
