MONIKIE AND NEWBIGGING CHURCH
NEWS
Newbigging Kirk -

Many of you will have seen that the For Sale sign outside Newbigging Kirk. is now away We can now tell you that the building has been sold. The income from the sale is to be used for the upgrading of Monikie Church and plans are at an advanced stage to undertake this work. Monikie Church will become the sole place of worship and church activities in the future.
The last service to take place in Newbigging will be held on Sunday 25th November, and this will be a celebration of the worship that has taken place in that building. All members of our community are invited to join with us in worship on that day at 10.30a.m. Whether you are a member of the congregation, somebody who used to be a member, used to worship with us, or even if you do not worship regularly, we would be delighted if you could join with us on this important occasion in the life of the community. We have an active Sunday School who will be in church with us that day, so why not bring your children along too. You will all be made most welcome.

Plans for Monikie Kirk

The above plan is an outline of what is being considered for upgrading Monikie Kirk

Christmas Fayre
The annual Christmas Fayre will be held on Saturday 1st December in Monikie Memorial Hall. Doors will open at 2.oopm and the Fayre will remain open until 4.00pm.
All the usual stalls will be in place and if you wish to donate items of bakery, other goods for sale, bottles for the bottle stall etc. then you can hand them into the hall from 9.00am on the day of the fayre.
You can get further information about the Christmas Fayre by contacting Les Riddock whose telephone nu8ber is 01382 370482
Sunday School
Sunday School has begun again after the Tattie holidays. We have eight children attending and it is always a great pleasure to be with them as they always seem keen to learn and participate. We use material from the Roots Magazine. Contributions to this magazine come from most of the Christian Churches in Britain and Ireland so the contents are widely used. We also base our family services around the themes given. This helps us with the planning of the services. The Nativity Service will be held on Sunday 16th December in Monikie Church We are in the middle of planning this at the moment. I hope everyone will come along and support the teachers and the children.

Message from the Minister
Monikie and Newbigging Church is going through a time of change. The Newbigging Church building has been sold and there are plans to alter the Monikie building to make it into a worship centre for the 21st Century. We’re taking this opportunity now to invite you to find out what it’s all about. Why not join us in worship on Sunday 25th November 2007 which will be the closing service for the Newbigging building. Mrs. Jeannie Allan, DCS, the Moderator of the Presbytery of Dundee will also be joining us to share in worship.
Many people would say that this was the end of the church but in reality it is only another step in the life of the church and in particular the life of the church in Monikie and Newbigging. Just as Monikie and Newbigging are changing shape with more housing, new residents, so the church needs to look at itself to look out and share its message with the community it serves.
This is an exciting time for the church here with a Sunday School starting at the church during the last year. There is indeed growth and movement and I’d invite you to join us in worship and fellowship.

Rev. Dave Sutherland
Interim Moderator
